Skin Rejuvenation

As you age, your skin begins to tell a story—long summer days spent outside in the sun, hormonal changes of puberty, laughing and smiling with friends and family. Your skin is physical evidence of the life you have lived.

For many, the signs of aging are worse than others. Fortunately, textural irregularities like wrinkles, acne scars, freckles, sunspots, and cellulite can all be corrected with skin rejuvenation.

Skin rejuvenation processes are intended to improve the appearance of your skin, including skin care products, treatments, and in-office procedures. The goal of all skin rejuvenation is to reveal younger, smoother skin.

At Dr Nightingale Dermatology Aesthetic, we offer laser resurfacing to help reduce the signs of aging.

Laser resurfacing uses light and heat energy to “destroy” thin sections of skin. The laser will remove the top layer of skin while heating the underlying layers. This stimulates the growth of new collagen fibers, resulting in new skin growth that is much smoother. One of the benefits of laser resurfacing is that it causes little damage to the surrounding skin, making it ideal to use in sensitive areas.

Treatment Options

Lasers use energy to gently penetrate the skin and stimulate the collagen fibers, working to improve the skin’s scaffolding and structure.  Patients will feel a difference in the texture of their skin after 2 to 3 treatments and since collagen takes time to grow, you will continue to see improvement over the next several weeks. After 4-6 sessions, you’ll notice a dramatic improvement, including smaller pores, more even tone, softer texture, reduction in fines lines and acne scars.

TightLase® is a non-ablative dermatological procedure designed to treat numerous issues. It can tighten skin, reduce the appearance of cellulite, and make the body appear firmer in areas where fat tends to reside.

This cutting-edge procedure works by making use of laser light, which harmlessly passes through the upper layers of the skin. When it meets fat and collagen, the laser light transforms into heat that shrinks and destroys fatty tissues while encouraging the growth of new collagen tissue.

TightLase® shrinks the fat tissue responsible for pushing outwards on the upper layers of the skin. The result is tighter skin that looks smoother without the need for invasive surgical procedures.

TightLase® & Cellulite Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is cellulite?

A:Cellulite is one of the more common skin conditions. An estimated 90 percent of women and a smaller portion of men suffer from it.

The appearance of bumpy, uneven, textures beneath the skin marks the appearance of this condition.

Q: What causes cellulite?

A: Cellulite is a condition where the fat layer pushes outward against the rigid structures that reside within the skin. This produces that telltale bumpy appearance that cellulite is known for and makes it a difficult condition to treat using conventional methods.

People who are overweight tend to acquire cellulite more readily, but people with a healthy weight can have cellulite as well.

The exact cause of cellulite is not known. Some people believe diet, metabolic issues, hormones, dehydration or even genetics can contribute to the occurrence of cellulite.

The one thing that is known about cellulite is how it works. By addressing the underlying layers of fat and collagen in the skin, it can successfully be treated.

Q: Where is cellulite most common?

A: Cellulite can reside almost anywhere on the body but is most commonly found on:

  • Thighs
  • Hips
  • Buttocks
  • Abdomen
  • Breasts
Q: How can TightLase reduce the appearance of cellulite?

A: TightLase® works by making use of laser light, which harmlessly passes through the upper layers of the skin. When it meets fat and collagen, the laser light transforms into heat that shrinks and destroys fatty tissues while encouraging the growth of new collagen tissue.

TightLase® shrinks the fat tissue responsible for pushing outwards on the upper layers of the skin. As the collagen layers beneath your skin tighten, this produces a smoother effective that tends to keep troublesome fat cells from producing the effect of cellulite.

The result is tighter skin that looks smoother without the need for invasive surgical procedures.

Q: How many treatments will I need?

A: On average, most patients will need multiple TightLase treatments to achieve optimal results. We generally recommend 1 – 3 sessions spaced 2 – 3 weeks apart. During your initial consultation with Dr. Nightingale, he can provide an estimate of how many sessions you might need to achieve your aesthetic goals.

Q: How long does TightLase last?

A: TightLase results have been known to last up to six months. Once your outcomes begin to fade, we can schedule a touch-up session to maintain your best results.

Q: How soon can I expect results?

A: This will vary per patient, but most are able to enjoy results right away, with visible outcomes appearing gradually over the following weeks. During your initial visit at Dr Nightingale Dermatology Aesthetic, Dr Nightingale can give you a better idea of when you can expect results based on your initial level of cellulite.

Q: How long is recovery?

A: Once your procedure is complete, you will be free to get back to your usual routine. You may experience redness and swelling, but this is normal, dissipating over the next few days. If you have any questions or experience lingering symptoms, do not hesitate to call our office.

Q: How do I get started?

A: Searching for a nonsurgical cellulite reduction treatment? TightLase may be the right solution for you. Call Dr Nightingale Dermatology Aesthetic to book an appointment with medical aesthetics specialist Dr. Stephen Nightingale, with offices in both Maine and Vermont.
